HET Hex Burst Studies
Last Revised: January 2009

The PROBLEM

We wish to develop a method for characterising the HET stack. This will be useful for tracking the progress of mirror support maintenance and mirror aluminization. The basic goal is to build an image processing system that will take a set of hex-burst images as input. For each image we will identify the HET mirrors, and characterise each mirror image using standard photometric parameters (integrated flux, image moments, etc.). In the analysis phase of the package, each mirror will be evaluated to determine optimum focus position and maximum integrated flux. In addition, each mirror will be evaluated for gross optical abberations like astigmatism or "doughnut images" casued by mirror support problems.
